Watermelon 'Ali Baba' is an heirloom vegetable from Iraq. The oblong fruits weigh 16-25 pounds. The hard, apple-green rind makes it good for shipping or selling at the farmer's market. The sweet, red flesh is crisp with a fine texture.
In my opinion, Ali Baba is one of the best-tasting watermelons on the planet. My only complaint is it's slow to germinate. It needs warm temperatures.
Watermelon 'Ali Baba' was introduced to the United States by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds in their ongoing effort to save rare heirlooms from extinction. Latin name: Citrullus lanatus.
