Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop' is a new selection that's more compact than the species, especially if you pinch it back at 4" tall to encourage branching. Without pinching, it will grow to about 3' tall.
The rosy-purple flowers begin blooming in midsummer. They attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Verbena bonariensis is a first-year-flowering perennial. It is hardy in zones 7-10, but it often overwinters in my zone 5 garden. Grow it as a self-sowing annual in colder regions. Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
