Strawflower Mix

Strawflower blooms from midsummer to fall in shades of pink, yellow, red, orange, and white. It is a popular fresh or dried cut flower.

This is a fun plant for a child's garden. When my daughter was young, she loved to collect the flowers for crafts. Cut the stems when the blooms are partially open, and hang the bunches upside down to dry in a dark place to preserve the color. The buds will continue to open as they dry.

Xerochrysm bracteatum (formerly Helichrysum bracteatum) is native to Australia. It gained popularity in Europe as a garden plant in the 1800s. It is also known as Paper Daisy, Everlasting, and Immortelle.

Strawflower is easy to grow, tolerating both drought and poor soil. Pinch out the tips for bushier plants.

Sowing Strawflower Seeds
