Mountain Garlic is an heirloom plant traditionally grown in cottage gardens in Germany. It is endangered in the wild. The bulbs, leaves and flowers are edible. Most often, the small bulbs are used as an onion substitute. By custom, the bulbs are harvested on June 24. The lavender-pink flowers bloom in summer.
This drought-tolerant allium is nice in the rock garden. Also known as Allium lusitanicum and German Garlic. Hardy in zones 3-8.
