Nemophila maculata

Nemophila maculata is an annual wildflower that blooms from spring to summer. The common name, Five Spot, refers to the five-petalled, white flowers that have a purplish-blue spot on the outer edge of each petal.

Five Spot makes a good bulb cover or groundcover for a small area. Try it near the front of the border, in a rockery, or at the edge of a path. It's also nice in containers.

Nemophila maculata is native to California. It prefers the cool temperatures of spring, and it reseeds where it's happy.

Sowing Nemophila maculata Seeds

Sow nemophila seeds outdoors in early spring, or fall in mild winter areas. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun to part shade.
