Kale 'White Russian'

White Russian kale has large, jagged, blue-green leaves with white veins. It grows quickly, making it a great choice for a fall crop. The mild flavor sweetens with frost. Also good for baby greens.

White Russian is the hardiest kale. We start seeds indoors in early August, and the transplants grow in a warm spot outside all winter, proving us with greens for our smoothies. When it bolts in the spring, we switch to eating Ethiopian kale.

Sowing Kale Seeds

Sow kale seeds outdoors in late spring to summer, 1/4" deep. Thin to 12" apart. Or start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Full sun to part shade.
