Datura inoxia

Datura inoxia has huge, pearly-white, trumpet-shaped flowers with a sweet fragrance. The annual plants grow rapidly with a bush-like habit, spreading up to 6 feet across. The velvety leaves are soft gray-green.

The flowers open in the evening and fade the next day by afternoon. They attract butterflies, hummingbirds and sphinx moths.

Datura inoxia grows best in sandy, well-drained soil in areas with hot summers. It is native to the southern states, Central and South America.

Other common names include Devil's Trumpet, Toloache and Moonflower. Hardy in zones 6-10. Self sows. All parts are poisonous.

Sowing Datura inoxia Seeds

Start datura seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last frost date. Or sow outdoors in spring, 1/8" deep. Germinates at 75-80 degrees. Full sun.
