Celtuce 'Sword Leaf'

Sword Leaf celtuce is known in Asia as Yu Mai Tsai. The long, thin, green leaves are good in salads. The bolted stems are used in stir-fries.

Space the plants at least 8" apart to get thick stems. Cut off the stems at the base when the plants begin to flower. To prepare for cooking, peel the stems using a vegetable peeler, and rinse off the bitter sap.

Sowing Celtuce Seeds

Sow celtuce seeds outdoors in early spring. Sow in very shallow furrows, and lightly cover with soil. Thin to 8" apart. Full sun to part shade.
