Larkpur generally likes full sun, but it doesn't mind part shade in hot summer areas. I grow it on the shady north side of my house in the Utah desert climate (zone 5b-6). We have very hot summers. Also known as Consolida ambigua.

Sowing Larkspur Seeds
Sow larkspur seeds outdoors in early spring, or fall in mild winter areas. Surface sow or barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun to part shade. Height 3-4'.

Larkspur 'Fancy Blue Purple' is a stunning selection with double flowers that are two-tone blue and purple. The tall stems have good branching. This larkspur blooms from late spring through summer. My daughter Megan, owner of Megan's Heirloom Seeds, keeps the strain pure by pulling up any plants that are off-color or single-flowered. The plants were perfect this year!
Larkspur 'Fancy Rose Striped' has double, pink flowers that darken as they mature to rose pink with reddish stripes. This gorgeous larkspur blooms all summer long, looking wonderful with many perennials and annuals. In my garden, it is planted with Salvia 'Blue Queen', Gaillardia 'Amber Wheels' and Rudbeckia 'Cherokee Sunset'.
