Aster novae-angliae is a popular native wildflower. This large, bushy perennial blooms from August to October with flowers in shades of pink, purple, violet and lavender with orange-yellow centers.

New England Aster is a vigorous grower and self-sower that works best in a prairie, widlflower or cottage garden.

In small gardens, cut the plants back by half at the beginning of July to keep them compact and give them an attractive, rounded habit. Deadhead to prevent excessive self-sowing. Drought-tolerant and deer resistant.

Aster novae-angliae requires 8 weeks cold-moist stratification.
