Purple Passion is the earliest beefsteak to ripen in my garden. The plants are large and sprawling, so they should be staked or caged to keep the heavy fruits off the ground.
Tomato 'Purple Passion' was introduced by Diane's Flower Seeds in 2005. Diane Linsley obtained the original seed from James M. Irvine, who got his seeds from Ron Watts of Kaysville, Utah. According to Mr. Irvine, Purple Passion is an old Utah heirloom.
