A famous heirloom tomato. The 6-12 ounce fruits are maroon-red with green shoulders. The flavor is well-balanced, rich and slightly smoky. This variety is the traditional yardstick by which other purple-black tomatoes are judged.
Cherokee Purple originated with the Cherokee Indians of Tennessee over 100 years ago. It has excellent disease resistance. My only complaint is it's late to ripen and not very productive in my zone 5 garden.
