This is one of the best penstemons for attracting hummingbirds. The tall spikes of scarlet red flowers start blooming in early summer and continue for many weeks.
Penstemon 'Iron Maiden' is relatively easy to grow, and some plants will bloom the first year from seed. Here it's shown with Lychnis chalcedonica.
