Sowing Ornamental Grass Seeds:
Sow indoors 6-10 weeks before the last frost date. Or sow outdoors in late spring or fall. Barely cover the seeds. Don't thin the seedlings. Stipa and some other species germinate best with cold-moist stratification. If no germination after 3 weeks, place pots in the fridge for 3 weeks. Sow broomcorn outdoors after the last frost date, 1/4" deep, then thin to 8" apart. Most grasses prefer full sun. Some tolerate shade. See the description pages for individual requirements.
