Lunaria is a popular heirloom flower. It was grown by Thomas Jefferson and was common in the gardens of his day. The flowers bloom in shades of purple or white. The silvery, paper-like seed pods are used in dried arrangements.
In The Bold & Brilliant Garden, Sarah Raven says, "Vigorous and easy to grow in almost any soil, Lunaria annua is a biennial which self-sows itself all over the place, filling in the darkest corners with color." Also known as Lunaria biennis, Money Plant, and Silver Dollar. Hardy in zones 4-8.
