Little bluestem is a narrowly upright grass with blue-green leaves. In late summer, the fluffy, rust-colored flowers appear. The leaves turn a lovely copper color in the fall, and the ripening seeds attract birds.
Little bluestem is a warm-season bunchgrass that looks terrific combined with other grasses and wildflowers. It is drought tolerant and hardy in zones 3-9. Also known as Prairie Beardgrass or Schizachyrium scoparium. Grows best in full sun.
