Dense blazingstar is one of the most popular prarie natives. The tall spikes of purple flowers attract bees and butterflies, and the seedheads attract birds.

Liatris spicata is equally at home in wildflower gardens or formal borders. It blooms in mid summer, making it a great companion for trumpet lilies, daylilies, echinacea, gaillardia, rudbeckia and ornamental grasses. Hardy in zones 3-10.
