Also known as Merveille de Quatre Saisons, this heirloom lettuce is from nineteenth century France. I found out the reason for its name when it self sowed in my garden, and we were harvesting a second crop in November.
Marvel of Four Seasons lettuce is very cold tolerant, but it's not quite as heat tolerant as our other varieties. It has good flavor and is valuable for adding color to salads. Latin name: Lactuca sativa
Sowing Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuce Seeds:
Sow outdoors in early spring, as soon as the ground can be worked. Sow on the surface in shallow furrows, or cover lightly with sand. Thin to 8" apart. Full sun to part shade.
