Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is my favorite fragrant herb. The leaves smell exactly like those lemon drops that we used to buy at the movie theaters when we were kids. Great for teas, lemon balm is said to calm the nerves and prevent heat exhaustion.

Lemon balm attracts butterflies and beneficial insects. It self-sows vigorously, unless cut back after the first flush of bloom. Lemon balm has been cultivated in gardens since at least 1551. Hardy in zones 4-9.
