Golden Purslane
Golden Purslane
(Portulaca oleracea sativa)

Now here's a weed you can love! Golden purslane is an improved variety of the common garden weed with larger, light green leaves and golden-orange stems.

The slightly tangy leaves and stems can be added to soups, salads, sandwiches, and many other dishes. Some people mix them with basil to make pesto. Purslane is high in vitamins C and E, beta carotene, magnesium, pectin and omega-3 fatty acids.

Golden purslane grows quickly and reseeds itself to produce a second crop in autumn. It loves hot weather, so please wait until after the last spring frost before sowing it.
