Rock Gardening
Rock Garden Perennials
by Diane Linsley

Back at my old house, I had rock gardens
all over the place. Whenever I needed a
rock for landscaping, all I had to do was
dig a hole, and I was guaranteed to find
one (or a bunch). You might say that
rock gardening was my specialty.

Things are different here at our new
house. When we need rocks for decoration, we have to go hunting for them in the mountains. I can grow almost anything that I want to grow here. But there are still some spots in the yard where the soil is unusually poor and well-drained, like next to the driveway. So that's were I put my new rock garden (after I brought some of my favorite rocks from the old house).

The soil in a rock garden can vary from sand to clay, but it should have good drainage. Most rock gardens are sited in full sun, but some are located in part shade. There are lots of nice plants for rock gardens. This list only includes small perennials that can be grown from seed and are available for sale on this website.
