In Perennial All-Stars, Jeff Cox says, "How wonderful...that nature has given us Chinese delphinium, a plant that avoids most of the intensive work of the taller delphiniums but still produces the species' characteristic marvelous blue flowers."
Delphinium 'Blue Butterfly' blooms the first year from seed with brilliant blue flowers on short, bushy plants. It's a short-lived perennial that can be grown as an annual. It blooms in mid summer, looking fabulous with lilies. Also known as Dwarf Chinese Delphinium and Delphinium grandiforum. Hardy in zones 3-7.
Sowing Delphinium Seeds:
Sow indoors 8 weeks before the last frost date. Barely cover the seeds. Full sun. The seeds and plants are poisonous.
