Armenian Basketflower, Yellow Hardhead

This perennial cornflower has large, bright yellow flowers in early summer. The overall impression is that of a huge thistle, but the plants are not at all prickly.
Centaurea macrocephala is a bushy perennial that adds substance to the garden. It looks striking when paired with blue flowers. It is drought resistant and hardy in zones 3-9.
