Aster azureus

Aster azureus is a native perennial that blooms in late summer to fall. The tall, bushy plants are absolutely smothered in a cloud of lavender-blue flowers with yellow centers.

Aster azureus makes a nice companion plant for ornamental grasses and other fall-blooming perennials like goldenrod. It attracts butterflies and a variety of beneficial insects.

Aster azureus is drought tolerant, and it performs well in a wide range of conditions. Also known as Azure Aster, Sky Blue Aster, Prairie Heart-leaf Aster, and Aster oolentangiensis. Hardy in zones 3-8.
